Manual or motorised

Awnings are offered manual or motorised. A motor makes opening and closing comfortable, especially for large spans; manual is the more economical choice. The fabric is UV-certified material on a strong aluminium structure.

What to assess at the technical visit

  • the terrace orientation and how much sun it gets;
  • the wall or structure the awning attaches to and the area it covers;
  • wind: retract the awning in strong wind;
  • the fabric colour and how it matches the facade and shutters.

When a pergola makes sense

Aluminium pergolas, with or without a canopy, are made to project and suit large terraces, restaurants and cafés. See also strap and motorised shutters for shading windows.

Common mistakes

  • Installing without assessing the wall or structure the awning attaches to.
  • Leaving the awning open in strong wind.
  • Choosing fabric without UV protection.
